We left Ondongo for Sesfontein, after a lengthy chat with our new Dutch friends and an invitation to visit them.
The Engen garage in Sesfontein is in a road that turns off the main road. In between the bushes are are two pumps, one diesel and one petrol. On arrival the pumps were off. We were informed that the generator would come on in a few minutes. We had a feeling that this could take a while. We headed to Sesfontein Lodge for something cold.
The Lodge looks beautiful, very impressive but needs a good clean. We returned to the petrol pumps which were thankfully working. A strikingly dressed Herrera lady was sitting at the garage. She was clothed from head to toe whereas the Himba’s wear as less as possible!
Just before 15:00 we arrived at Puros campsite after making a bush repair. Our trailer’s jockey wheel became unstuck and was bent to oblivion. We stopped under a tree near a local community and eventually used the Ford’s winch to bend it back. It released and we were on our way. It is safe to say it was possibly the worst road we have ever travelled. Three hours of driving this ” Sinkplaat pad “, corrugated road for my English friends, left us exhausted. If I ever travel this road again, it will be too soon!
After checking out all the campsites, #3 was our first choice, but it was booked. We settled on #2 as it had shade and was very secluded. Each campsite has its’ own bush shower and toilet divided by reeds, as well as a washing up area at the camp. Here you feel as though you are all alone in the bush. Priceless. We set up camp and Ewert and Cristel made a delicious Bilting pot. It was great to go to bed knowing we would not need to pack up the following morning.
